Depolümerisatsioon

Depolümerisatsioon is a chemical process where a polymer is broken down into its constituent monomers or smaller molecular units. This is essentially the reverse of polymerization, where monomers are joined together to form long chains. Depolymerization can occur through various mechanisms, including thermal, chemical, or enzymatic pathways.

Thermal depolymerization, often referred to as pyrolysis, involves heating a polymer in the absence of oxygen to high temperatures. This causes the polymer chains to break apart, yielding smaller molecules that can include monomers, oligomers, and other volatile compounds. Chemical depolymerization utilizes specific chemical reagents to cleave the bonds within the polymer backbone.
