Dentinoberfläche

Dentinoberfläche refers to the surface of dentin, the hard tissue that lies beneath the enamel in teeth. It is a porous, calcified tissue that makes up the bulk of a tooth. The dentino-cemental junction marks the boundary between dentin and cementum, which covers the root of the tooth. The dentino-enamel junction separates the dentin from the enamel layer on the crown.

The surface of dentin is characterized by microscopic tubules called dentinal tubules. These tubules extend from the pulp cavity (the inner chamber of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels) outwards towards the dentino-enamel or dentino-cemental junctions. Within these tubules are extensions of odontoblasts, the cells responsible for forming dentin. The presence of these tubules makes dentin permeable and contributes to tooth sensitivity.

The structure and composition of the dentinoberfläche are crucial for tooth health and function. It plays a role in transmitting stimuli such as temperature, touch, and pain to the pulp. In cases of enamel erosion or wear, the dentinoberfläche can become exposed, leading to increased sensitivity and a higher risk of decay. Dental treatments often involve interacting with the dentinoberfläche, such as during cavity preparation or bonding procedures. Understanding the properties of the dentinoberfläche is essential for dentists to effectively diagnose and treat dental conditions.
