Denaturatsioonil

Denaturatsioonil refers to the process by which a substance, typically a protein or nucleic acid, loses its native three-dimensional structure. This loss of structure can be caused by various external factors, such as heat, extreme pH, or chemical agents like strong acids, bases, or organic solvents.

When a protein denatures, its complex folded structure, which is crucial for its biological function, unravels. This unfolding exposes the hydrophobic amino acid residues that were previously buried within the protein core, leading to aggregation and loss of solubility. For nucleic acids, denaturation involves the separation of complementary strands in double-stranded DNA or RNA.
