Demokratiya

Demokratiya is a form of government in which supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections. The word originates from the Greek words demos meaning "people" and kratos meaning "rule" or "power". In a democracy, citizens have a voice in decision-making processes that affect their lives. This can take various forms, including direct democracy where citizens vote on laws and policies themselves, or representative democracy where citizens elect officials to make decisions on their behalf.

Key principles often associated with demokratiya include political equality, majority rule with protection for minority rights, and fundamental freedoms such as freedom of speech assembly and press.
