Etymology: The word derives from Latin delictum, meaning a fault or offense, via Old French and other medieval spellings. In manuscripts and early dictionaries, delicte appears as a variant spelling alongside forms like delict, reflecting the fluid spelling practices of the period. Over time, the form delicte largely fell out of regular use in favor of standardized spellings.

Usage: In historical discussions of law and ethics, delicte may be encountered in translations or commentaries on Latin legal texts where the concept corresponds to a civil wrong or offense.
