Dekarboxüleerimiseks is a chemical process that involves the removal of a carboxyl group (COOH) from a molecule. This often results in the release of carbon dioxide (CO2) as a byproduct. The term itself is derived from "de-" meaning removal, "carboxyl" referring to the carboxyl group, and "-eerimiseks" indicating a process or action in Estonian.

This reaction is crucial in various biological and chemical contexts. In biological systems, decarboxylation is a key step in metabolic pathways such as the citric acid cycle, where it facilitates energy production within cells.
