Deduksionit

Deduksionit, often translated as deduction, is a logical process where a conclusion is based on premises that are guaranteed to be true. If the premises are true and the reasoning is valid, the conclusion must also be true. This contrasts with induction, which uses specific observations to form a general conclusion that may or may not be true.

In deductive reasoning, the argument moves from general principles to specific instances. For example, a classic syllogism states: All men are mortal (major premise). Socrates is a man (minor premise). Therefore, Socrates is mortal (conclusion). If the premises are accepted as true, the conclusion is inescapable. This form of reasoning is fundamental to mathematics, logic, and scientific inquiry when testing hypotheses.

The validity of a deductive argument depends on its structure, not necessarily the truth of its premises. An argument can be deductively valid even if its premises are false. However, a sound deductive argument is both valid in structure and has true premises, thus guaranteeing a true conclusion. Errors in deductive reasoning can lead to fallacies, where the conclusion does not logically follow from the premises, even if the premises appear true.
