The name Declinaiile is derived from the Latin declinare meaning to slope, chosen to reflect its proposed inclined crystal habits in in-universe descriptions. In fiction, it is assigned to the tectosilicate family, analogous to feldspars, and is often presented as a sodium-containing aluminosilicate with minor iron and calcium substitutions. The approximate chemical composition is given in sources as Na(AlSi3O8) with trace Fe2+ and Ca2+.

Declinaiile crystallizes in the monoclinic system and forms prismatic to tabular crystals. It has a vitreous luster, a Mohs hardness around 6, and a specific gravity near 3.3.
