Decidís

Decidís is the second-person plural present indicative form of the Spanish verb decidir, meaning “to decide.” It is used with the pronoun vosotros in Spain and some parts of the Caribbean, and corresponds to “you all decide” in English. In much of Latin America the vosotros form is not used, and the equivalent is “ustedes deciden.”

Decidir is a stem-changing verb in the present tense, with the e changing to i in most forms. The present indicative forms are: yo decido, tú decides, él decide, nosotros decidimos, vosotros decidís, ellos deciden. The form decidís carries an acute accent on the í to indicate stress on the last syllable.

Usage notes: Decidís appears in informal, plural address in Spain when speaking to a group using vosotros. In contexts where vosotros is not used, or in formal writing, speakers often use ustedes deciden in Latin America, or usted/ustedes decide depending on the degree of formality and regional norms.

Etymology: Decidir comes from the Latin decidere, from de- plus caedere (to cut). The sense evolved from “to cut off options” to “to make a decision.” The noun decisión and the adjective decisivo share the same root.

Examples: Vosotros decidís qué comer hoy. Ellos deciden su itinerario mañana. In many Latin American dialects, would be: Ustedes deciden qué comer hoy.
