Dashboardsteuergerätediagnose, often abbreviated as DSD, refers to the diagnostic procedures and systems associated with the instrument cluster or dashboard control unit in a vehicle. This control unit is responsible for displaying vital information to the driver, such as speed, fuel level, engine temperature, warning lights, and various status indicators. DSD encompasses the internal self-testing capabilities of the dashboard unit, as well as its ability to communicate with other vehicle control modules (ECUs) to diagnose faults.

When a problem arises within the dashboard system or a connected component, the DSD can detect these issues. This detection often results in illuminated warning lamps on the dashboard itself, or specific error messages displayed on digital screens. The diagnostic process involves reading fault codes stored within the dashboard control unit's memory. These codes provide technicians with specific information about the nature and location of the malfunction.

Tools like OBD-II scanners are commonly used to access these fault codes. Beyond just reading codes, DSD also allows for the inspection of live data streams from the dashboard unit. This data can include real-time sensor readings and communication statuses, helping to pinpoint intermittent issues or verify proper system operation.
