Dairen

Dairen is a city located in Liaoning Province, China. It is situated at the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, overlooking the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea. This strategic location has historically made Dairen a significant port and naval base. The city's name in Chinese is Dàlián, meaning "Great Connection."

Dairen's history is marked by periods of foreign influence. It was leased to Russia in 1898 and became known as Port Arthur. Following the Russo-Japanese War, Japan took control of the city and its surrounding territory, renaming it Dairen. During this period, Dairen developed into a major commercial center and administrative hub for Japan's Kwantung Leased Territory. After World War II, Dairen was returned to Chinese administration.

Today, Dairen is a vibrant industrial and commercial hub. Its port remains one of the busiest in Northeast China, facilitating trade and shipping. The city is also known for its modern infrastructure, pleasant climate, and a growing tourism industry, attracting visitors with its beaches and historical sites. Dairen is an important economic center within the Bohai Economic Rim.
