DNAszintézisre, which translates to DNA synthesis in Hungarian, refers to the process by which deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is constructed. This fundamental biological process is essential for cell division, growth, and repair, as it ensures that new cells receive a complete and accurate copy of the genetic material. DNA synthesis primarily occurs during the S phase of the cell cycle. The process involves unwinding the double helix of the parent DNA molecule, and each strand then serves as a template for the creation of a new complementary strand. This is achieved through the action of enzymes, with DNA polymerase being the key player. DNA polymerase reads the template strand and adds the correct nucleotides (adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine) in the appropriate sequence to build the new strand. This semi-conservative replication ensures that each new DNA molecule consists of one original strand and one newly synthesized strand. Errors in DNA synthesis can lead to mutations, which can have various consequences for an organism.
