DNAprimed
DNAprimed is a term that refers to the process of initiating DNA synthesis. DNA synthesis, the creation of new DNA molecules, cannot begin spontaneously. It requires a short starter sequence called a primer, which is typically made of RNA, to be synthesized by an enzyme called primase. This primer provides a free 3'-hydroxyl group that DNA polymerase can then use to add DNA nucleotides. Once a sufficient length of DNA has been synthesized by DNA polymerase, the RNA primer is usually removed and replaced with DNA. This priming step is crucial for the replication of both the leading and lagging strands of DNA. The concept of DNAprimed is fundamental to understanding DNA replication and the mechanisms that ensure accurate duplication of the genetic material. Errors in the priming process or the subsequent removal and replacement of primers can lead to mutations or replication defects.
