DIAASasteikolla is a Swedish term that translates to "on the DIAAS scale" or "according to the DIAAS scale." DIAAS stands for Digestible Indispensable Amino Acid Score. It is a method of measuring the protein quality of a food. This scoring system evaluates the amino acid profile of a protein source and its digestibility. It specifically focuses on the indispensable (essential) amino acids, which the human body cannot synthesize and must obtain from the diet.

The DIAAS score is calculated by comparing the amount of each indispensable amino acid in a food to the requirements of a reference individual, taking into account the true ileal digestibility of the protein. A score of 100 or higher is considered to indicate a high-quality protein source, meaning it provides all essential amino acids in sufficient amounts and is well-digested. Scores below 100 suggest that the protein source may be limiting in certain essential amino acids or less digestible. This metric is used in nutritional science and food labeling to provide a more accurate assessment of protein quality compared to older methods.
