DAISYstandard
DAISYstandard refers to a set of guidelines and specifications for creating accessible digital talking books and other digital audio content. The DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) Consortium developed these standards to ensure that people with print disabilities, such as blindness, low vision, or dyslexia, can easily access and navigate digital publications. DAISYformat books are designed to be more than just audio files; they incorporate structural information that allows for navigation by chapter, section, page, or even sentence. This provides a user experience similar to reading a print book, allowing for skimming, searching, and bookmarking. The standard supports various media, including audio, text, and images, and is compatible with a range of reading devices and software. DAISYstandards promote interoperability between different systems and producers of accessible content. The Consortium continues to evolve the standards to meet the changing needs of users and the publishing industry, aiming to make information accessible to everyone.
