Cöliákiások refers to individuals who have celiac disease. Celiac disease is a serious autoimmune disorder that affects the small intestine. When a person with celiac disease consumes gluten, their immune system mistakenly attacks the lining of the small intestine. This damage interferes with the absorption of nutrients from food, leading to a variety of health problems. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye.

Currently, the only effective treatment for celiac disease is a strict, lifelong gluten-free diet. Adhering to this diet allows the small intestine to heal and prevents further damage, enabling proper nutrient absorption.
