Cytoskeletonlike refers to structures or components within a cell that exhibit properties or functions analogous to the cellular cytoskeleton, but are not necessarily composed of the same protein families or organized in the same canonical manner. The cytoskeleton in eukaryotic cells is a dynamic network of protein filaments and tubules, primarily actin filaments, microtubules, and intermediate filaments, which provides structural support, facilitates cell movement, and plays a role in intracellular transport.

In broader biological contexts, particularly in prokaryotes or in describing the organization of non-proteinaceous cellular components, the term "cytoskeletonlike" is employed. For instance, some bacteria possess protein structures that perform similar scaffolding or motility functions to eukaryotic cytoskeletal elements, though they are made of different proteins like MreB and FtsZ. These bacterial homologs are often referred to as cytoskeletonlike. Similarly, when discussing the internal organization of organelles or the distribution of molecules within a cell that mimics the structural order provided by a cytoskeleton, the term might be used. It highlights a functional or organizational similarity without implying direct homology in composition or origin.
