Cyneswides
Cyneswides was an Anglo-Saxon queen and the wife of King Ecgberht of Wessex. Details about her life are scarce, as is common for many women of this period. She is primarily known through her connection to Ecgberht, who reigned from 802 to 839 AD. Cyneswides's parentage and exact marriage date to Ecgberht are not recorded in surviving historical documents. However, it is understood that she was the mother of Æthelwulf, who succeeded his father as king. This maternal role is a significant aspect of her historical presence. There is no definitive evidence regarding her activities or influence beyond her role as queen and mother to the future king. Her existence is mainly inferred from genealogical accounts and royal charters that mention her son. The limited information available makes it difficult to reconstruct a detailed biography, but her place in the lineage of Wessex rulers is historically acknowledged.
