Cyclohexylmagnesium

Cyclohexylmagnesium is an organometallic compound with the chemical formula C6H11MgX, where X is a halogen such as chloride, bromide, or iodide. It is a Grignard reagent, characterized by a carbon-magnesium bond. These reagents are highly reactive and are primarily used in organic synthesis as nucleophiles. The cyclohexyl group, a saturated six-membered ring, imparts specific steric and electronic properties to the reagent.

Cyclohexylmagnesium compounds are typically prepared by reacting a cyclohexyl halide with magnesium metal in an anhydrous ethereal solvent, such as diethyl ether or tetrahydrofuran.
