They support partial or incremental matching, allowing systems to react to incomplete cues and to assemble richer cues from available fragments. This approach can improve robustness to noise, variation, and occlusion, and it can enhance explainability by tracing responses back to specific fragments.

Applications of cuesfragments span multiple domains. In multimedia indexing and search, fragments enable retrieval when only portions of a cue are present. In cognitive modeling, they provide a framework for studying cue-based recall and recognition by isolating contributing elements.
