Crosslacustrine is an interdisciplinary term describing phenomena, data, or analyses that involve more than one lake or that traverse a lake-rich landscape. It denotes a framework in which multiple lacustrine basins are studied in a coordinated way to understand landscape-scale processes, rather than focusing on a single lake in isolation. The concept is used across fields such as geology, paleolimnology, geography, and ecology to examine how hydrological connectivity, sediment transport, and biotic exchange operate across lake chains or basins.

In practice, crosslacustrine studies may aim to link sedimentary records from adjacent lakes to detect synchronous environmental changes, verify regional climatic events, or reconstruct hydrological networks through time. Such work often employs cross-basin dating and correlation techniques, including radiocarbon dating, tephrochronology, stratigraphic alignment, and comparative diatom or pollen analyses. Isotope geochemistry and sedimentology help identify shared sources or pathways of materials that move between basins. The approach can reveal how catchments interact at a regional scale, how water and organisms move through a network of lakes, and how landscape evolution influences lacustrine ecosystems.

Challenges include heterogeneity among basins in sedimentation rates, basin morphometry, and preservation potential, which can complicate correlations. Crosslacustrine work requires robust age models and careful integration of disparate datasets to draw reliable regional inferences.
