Creosols, also known as cresols or methylphenols, are a group of organic compounds that are derivatives of phenol. They consist of a benzene ring attached to a hydroxyl group (–OH) and a methyl group (–CH3) in various positions. There are three isomers of creosols, differing in the position of the methyl group relative to the hydroxyl group: o-cresol (2-methylphenol), m-cresol (3-methylphenol), and p-cresol (4-methylphenol).
