CotINIT

CotINIT is a protein complex that is involved in the regulation of cell cycle progression, particularly during the initiation of mitosis. It is composed of a number of different subunits, but its composition and structure are not fully understood.

Research has shown that CotINIT plays a critical role in the formation of the preprophase band, a structure that forms at the equator of a plant cell prior to mitosis. This complex also seems to interact with the protein kinase CPK21/ITT1, which is thought to be involved in the regulation of the cell cycle.

CotINIT's function in the cell cycle has been studied in a number of different species, including Arabidopsis thaliana and tobacco. In these organisms, it has been shown to be involved in the regulation of the G2/M transition, which is the point at which the cell cycle transitions from the G2 (gap two) phase to the M (mitosis) phase.

Studies have been conducted using a variety of techniques, including microinjection and immunoelectron microscopy. These have provided insights into the localization and potential functions of CotINIT during the cell cycle. CotINIT has been found to be present at the centromeres of chromosomes during mitosis, which suggests that it may play a role in the proper alignment of chromosomes during cell division.
