Coronavirusfamilier

Coronavirusfamilier is a broad term that encompasses a large group of viruses belonging to the order Nidovirales and the family Coronaviridae. These viruses are known for their characteristic crown-like (corona) appearance under an electron microscope, due to the presence of spike proteins on their surface. Coronaviruses are RNA viruses that infect a wide range of hosts, including birds, bats, and mammals.

Within the family Coronaviridae, there are four genera: Alphacoronavirus, Betacoronavirus, Gammacoronavirus, and Deltacoronavirus. Different coronaviruses are responsible for a variety of diseases in animals. In humans, coronaviruses are a common cause of respiratory infections, ranging in severity from mild common colds to more serious illnesses.

Notable human coronaviruses include those that cause the common cold, as well as more severe outbreaks such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and the ongoing pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19. Transmission between humans can occur through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.
