Constantinoples
Constantinoples is a term sometimes used in historical or linguistic contexts to refer to Constantinople, the city that was the capital of the Byzantine Empire and later the Ottoman Empire. The name derives from Emperor Constantine the Great, who refounded Byzantium as Constantinople in 330 CE, meaning “City of Constantine.” In modern usage, the city is called Istanbul, and the form Constantinoples is not standard in contemporary geography.
