Compuwares

Compuware Corporation was an American software and IT services company headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. Founded in 1973 by Peter Karmanos Jr., Dan Pelino, and Gary Kennedy, it initially focused on providing mainframe application development and support. Over the years, Compuware expanded its offerings to include a broad range of IT solutions, such as application performance management, IT infrastructure management, and cybersecurity.

The company grew significantly through both organic development and strategic acquisitions. It became a publicly traded entity in 1992 and was at one point a major player in the enterprise software market. Compuware served a diverse client base across various industries, including finance, healthcare, and government.

In 2014, Compuware was acquired by private equity firm Thoma Bravo for approximately $2.4 billion and was taken private. Following this acquisition, the company underwent a strategic shift, divesting some of its business units to focus more on its core software products, particularly those related to mainframe modernization and application performance. Later, in 2020, Thoma Bravo sold Compuware to Kaseya. Compuware continues to operate as a subsidiary, focusing on providing solutions that help organizations manage and optimize their complex IT environments, with a particular emphasis on legacy systems.
