Combcsontkialakítás, a Hungarian term, translates to "femur formation" or "development of the femur." This refers to the complex biological process by which the thigh bone, the femur, develops within a living organism. It encompasses both the embryonic and postnatal stages of growth.

During embryonic development, the femur begins as a cartilaginous model. This model gradually undergoes endochondral ossification, a process where cartilage is replaced by bone. Mesenchymal cells differentiate into chondrocytes, which lay down the cartilaginous framework. Blood vessels then invade this cartilage, bringing osteoblasts that start the process of bone formation. This ossification typically begins in the diaphysis (shaft) and then proceeds towards the epiphyses (ends) of the bone.

Postnatal growth of the femur continues primarily at the epiphyseal plates, located at each end of the bone. These areas of cartilage continue to divide and elongate, pushing the epiphyses further away from the diaphysis, thus lengthening the bone. Hormones, such as growth hormone and sex hormones, play crucial roles in regulating this growth. The femur continues to grow in length and width until skeletal maturity is reached, typically in late adolescence or early adulthood.
