Combatís

Combatís is the second-person plural present indicative form of the Spanish verb combatir, meaning “you all fight” or “you all combat.” It is used when addressing a group in regions that use the vosotrôs/vosotras form (primarily Spain and some parts of Latin America). In most of Latin America, the corresponding form for ustedes is combaten, since vosostros is not used there.

Grammatical notes: Combatir is a regular -ir verb. Its present tense forms are: yo combato, tú combates, él combate, nosotros combatimos, vosotros combatís, ellos combaten. The accent on í in combatís indicates stress on the last syllable, following the general stress pattern for vosotros forms. Usage and regional variation: Combatís is common in conversational and formal writing where the vosotros form is standard. In regions where vosotras/vosotros is not used, ustedes replaces vosotros, and the corresponding present tense is combaten. The verb can describe combat in military terms, or figurative opposition to problems, diseases, or social issues, e.g., “Combatís la inflación con medidas fiscales” or “Combatís la pobreza mediante programas sociales.”
