CollectionssynchronizedMap
Collectionssyn is a term used to describe a proposed framework for cross-institutional collection discovery and management. It is not a single software product but a design concept and set of interoperable standards intended to enable researchers and the public to search and analyze holdings across libraries, archives, and museums that participate in the project.
The framework envisages a modular architecture with a central metadata registry, local data stores, and connectors
To support interoperability, Collectionssyn would accommodate multiple metadata schemas, including Dublin Core, MODS, MARCXML, and CIDOC
Rights management, provenance tracking, and versioning would be integral, with access policies reflecting each institution's permissions.
As a concept, Collectionssyn has been discussed in digital heritage and library science circles as a blueprint
