Coeymans

Coeymans is a town in eastern Albany County, New York, located on the south bank of the Hudson River. The town includes the community of Ravena and the hamlets of Coeymans, Coeymans Hollow, and Alcove. It is part of the Albany metropolitan area and lies about 20 miles northeast of Albany.

The name Coeymans derives from the Dutch-origin Coeymans family, early settlers in the area. The town’s economy historically centered on agriculture and milling, with the Hudson River corridor fostering transportation and industry in the 19th and 20th centuries. Ravena and surrounding areas developed some manufacturing activity, including cement-related industry, contributing to local growth.

Today, Coeymans is a mixed rural and residential community with small businesses and services. The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District serves the area. Local government is a town board within Albany County, providing typical services such as road maintenance, zoning, emergency services, and planning.
