Chiqmoq

Chiqmoq is an Uzbek verb meaning to go out, to exit, or to appear. It is used for literal movement from one place to another as well as for things that come into public view, such as information, books, or media. The sense can be physical, as in leaving a room, or figurative, such as a book being released or a rumor surfacing.

Etymology and form: Chiqmoq comes from the Turkic root chiq- meaning “to go out,” with the infinitive suffix -moq. It is related to similar verbs in related languages and has derivatives that express the act or result of coming out. The infinitive form is chiqmoq, and the verb conjugates regularly across tenses and aspects. Common forms include chiqaman (I go out), chiqasan (you go out), chiqadi (he/she goes out), and chiqamiz (we go out). The past forms typically appear as chiqdi or cḧiqqan, depending on aspect.

Uses and examples: Literally, a person leaving a place is described with chiqmoq, as in Xonadan chiqdi. The expression is also used for departures from work or duties, for example, ishdan chiqdi to quit a job. In publication and media contexts, chiqmoq is used to mean “to be published” or “to come out,” for instance, kitob chiqdi (the book was published/released). The noun chiqish denotes the act or process of exiting or appearing, and the participle chiqqan describes something that has come out or appeared (chiqqan xabar = information that has come out).
