This approach places a significant emphasis on verifying data at various stages of processing, transmission, or storage by calculating and comparing checksum values. A checksum is a small block of data derived from a larger block of digital data for the purpose of detecting errors that may have been introduced during its transmission or storage.

In a checksumdriven system, every piece of data that needs to be protected is associated with a checksum. When data is sent or stored, its checksum is calculated and transmitted or stored alongside it. Upon reception or retrieval, the checksum is recalculated from the data and compared with the stored or transmitted checksum. If the two checksums do not match, it indicates that the data has been corrupted or altered, and appropriate error handling procedures are initiated, such as requesting retransmission or flagging the data as invalid.
