Chaoyangopterus
Chaoyangopterus is a genus of azhdarchid pterosaur, a type of flying reptile that lived during the Early Cretaceous period. Fossils of Chaoyangopterus have been discovered in the Jiufotang Formation of Liaoning Province, China. This formation is known for its exceptionally well-preserved feathered dinosaurs and other early Cretaceous fauna.
The type species, Chaoyangopterus zhengi, was described in 2002. It is known from a single partial skeleton
Its exact phylogenetic position within azhdarchids is still debated. Some studies suggest it is a basal member
