Chandernagore
Chandernagore, also spelled Chandannagar, is a municipality in West Bengal, India. It is situated on the western bank of the Hooghly River, approximately 40 kilometers north of Kolkata. Historically, Chandernagore was a French colonial settlement, one of the five trading posts of the French East India Company in Bengal. It was established in 1688 and grew into a significant port and administrative center under French rule.
