Chakas
Chakas, also known as Chakass or Shakas, are a Bantu ethnic group traditionally found in parts of Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Their cultural identity is closely linked to their historical migrations and interactions with neighboring communities. The Chakas have a rich oral tradition, often passed down through storytelling and proverbs, which preserves their history, social customs, and spiritual beliefs. Their traditional economy was largely agrarian, with a focus on cultivating crops such as maize, sorghum, and beans, supplemented by livestock herding.
Historically, the Chakas were known for their skilled craftsmanship, particularly in metalworking and pottery. Their social
