Centistokesia

Centistokesia is a hypothetical unit of kinematic viscosity. The cgs (centimeter-gram-second) system defines the stokes (St) as the unit of kinematic viscosity, equivalent to 1 cm²/s. A centistokes (cSt) is one hundredth of a stoke, or 10⁻² St, which is equal to 1 mm²/s or 1x10⁻⁶ m²/s. This unit is commonly used in various industries, particularly in the petroleum and lubricant sectors, to measure the flow characteristics of oils and other fluids.

Kinematic viscosity is a measure of a fluid's resistance to flow under the influence of gravity. It is defined as the ratio of dynamic viscosity to density. The centistokes unit provides a convenient scale for expressing the viscosity of many common liquids, such as engine oils, hydraulic fluids, and other industrial lubricants. For example, a motor oil might be rated as 10W-30, where the "30" typically refers to its viscosity at 100°C in centistokes. A lower centistokes value indicates a thinner fluid that flows more easily, while a higher value signifies a thicker fluid with greater resistance to flow.
