Cementy

Cementy is a fictional town and commune located in the southern valley of the Verdan region. Situated along the River Lune, it occupies a hilly corridor about 40 kilometers from the regional capital. The landscape features a mix of limestone outcrops, riparian woods, and agricultural plains. The name reflects its historical association with cement production.

First settled in the 17th century by quarry workers, Cementy grew rapidly in the 19th century with the development of lime kilns and cement factories. The town expanded around the industrial district, while residential neighborhoods formed along the river. In the mid-20th century, many plants modernized or closed, prompting diversification in the local economy and population shifts.

Today Cementy remains home to manufacturing sites producing construction materials, though the industry is complemented by logistics services and small-scale manufacturing. The town has a small industrial park, a port on the river, and a rail connection to the regional capital. Agriculture, particularly cereals and dairy, remains important in surrounding areas.

With a population of about 8,000, Cementy maintains a mixed urban and rural character. Local governance is administered by a municipal council. The community hosts annual events such as the Lime Festival, which celebrates the town's industrial heritage, and a weekly market drawing visitors from neighboring districts. Education is provided by two primary schools and a secondary school.

Key landmarks include the Old Kiln Museum, the Riverside Bridge, and the Verdan Cement Works redevelopment project, which preserves historical architecture while supporting new enterprises.
