Cellfusion

Cellfusion is a fictional concept referring to the hypothetical process by which different types of cells within a multicellular organism might merge or exchange genetic material to create a new, hybrid cell type. This idea, often explored in science fiction and theoretical biology, suggests a mechanism for rapid adaptation or the generation of novel cellular functionalities. Unlike processes like cell division or differentiation, cellfusion implies a direct fusion event between two or more pre-existing cells.

The theoretical underpinnings of cellfusion often draw parallels to known biological phenomena such as cell fusion that occurs naturally in certain contexts, like the formation of muscle fibers from myoblasts or the fusion of gametes during fertilization. However, cellfusion as a general mechanism for creating diverse cell types within an organism remains speculative.
