Cellebygging, also known as cell culture, is a process used in biology to grow cells or tissues outside of their natural organism. This involves providing a controlled environment that mimics the conditions cells need to survive and proliferate. The basic components of cell culture include a nutrient-rich growth medium, a stable temperature (typically 37 degrees Celsius for mammalian cells), a controlled atmosphere with a specific percentage of carbon dioxide, and sterile conditions to prevent contamination by microorganisms.

Cells for culture can be derived from various sources, such as primary tissues directly from an organism, or from established cell lines that have been adapted to grow indefinitely in culture. These cell lines are often immortalized, meaning they can divide an unlimited number of times. The process typically involves isolating cells, placing them in a suitable culture vessel like a petri dish or flask, and incubating them under the aforementioned controlled conditions.

Cell culture techniques are fundamental to a wide range of scientific research, including studies on cell biology, genetics, virology, and drug discovery. They are essential for understanding cellular functions, testing the effects of various substances, and producing biological products like vaccines and therapeutic proteins.
