Cefuroximeaxetil
Cefuroximeaxetil is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics and is an ester prodrug of cefuroxime. The drug is administered orally and is rapidly converted to its active form, cefuroxime, in the body. Cefuroximeaxetil is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including those that are resistant to penicillin. It is commonly used to treat respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and urinary tract infections. The antibiotic works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, leading to the death of the bacteria. Cefuroximeaxetil is generally well-tolerated, but like all antibiotics, it can cause side effects such as gastrointestinal upset, allergic reactions, and in rare cases, more serious adverse effects. The use of cefuroximeaxetil should be guided by a healthcare professional, as it is a prescription medication.
