Carroções is a term used in Portuguese to refer to large wheeled vehicles, especially substantial carts or wagons drawn by animals such as oxen or horses. The word derives from the noun carro (cart) with the augmentative suffix -ão, signaling increased size or capacity. While its exact meaning can vary by region, the core sense is that of a heavy, cargo-carrying vehicle.

Historically, the carroção appears in rural and agricultural contexts in Portugal and Brazil. Typical designs featured a robust wooden chassis, a flat or slightly contoured bed, and large wheels with iron fittings. These wagons were built to transport heavy loads over uneven roads, including timber, grain, bricks, stones, sugarcane, and other farm or construction outputs.
