Calxcalcis

Calxcalcis is a chemical compound with the formula CaO, commonly known as quicklime. It is produced by the thermal decomposition of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) at temperatures above 825°C. The process involves heating limestone in a lime kiln, which releases carbon dioxide (CO2) and leaves behind calxcalcis. This compound is highly reactive and can absorb water and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, forming calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and calcium carbonate, respectively. Calxcalcis is primarily used in the construction industry as a cement additive and in the manufacturing of glass and steel. It is also used in agriculture as a soil conditioner and in the production of various chemicals. Due to its high reactivity, calxcalcis must be handled with care to prevent accidental reactions with water or carbon dioxide.
