Calneh

Calneh is a biblical toponym appearing in several books of the Hebrew Bible. In Genesis 10:10 it is listed as one of the cities that formed Nimrod’s kingdom in the land of Shinar, alongside Babel, Erech, and Accad. This places Calneh in southern Mesopotamia according to the biblical account.

among
northern
Mesopotamian
sites.
Other
proposals
place
Calneh
in
different
parts
of
Mesopotamia
or
Syria,
or
treat
the
reference
as
more
emblematic
or
literary
than
a
specific,
fixed
site.
