Ca2sisäänvirtauksen, often shortened to Ca2sis, refers to the influx of calcium ions into a cell. This process is a fundamental mechanism in cellular signaling and various physiological functions. Calcium ions (Ca2+) are crucial for a wide range of cellular activities, acting as a second messenger to transmit signals within the cell and between cells.

The influx of Ca2+ typically occurs through specific ion channels embedded in the cell membrane. These channels can be voltage-gated, meaning they open in response to changes in the cell's electrical potential, or ligand-gated, opening when a specific molecule binds to them. Store-operated calcium channels are another important class, which are activated when calcium stores within the cell, like the endoplasmic reticulum, become depleted.

Once inside the cell, the increased concentration of Ca2+ triggers a cascade of events. It can bind to various calcium-binding proteins, such as calmodulin, which then activates or inhibits other proteins, enzymes, or ion channels. This modulation of cellular activity is essential for processes like muscle contraction, neurotransmitter release, gene expression, fertilization, and cell growth and division.
