CRPIX1

CRPIX1, also known as C-reactive protein inducible X1, is a gene located on chromosome 17q23.3. It encodes a protein that plays a role in the inflammatory response and immune system regulation. The CRPIX1 gene is part of the C-reactive protein (CRP) family, which includes other genes like CRPIX2 and CRPIX3. These genes are involved in the production of CRP, a protein that is produced by the liver in response to inflammation and infection. CRP binds to phosphocholine, a component of bacterial cell walls, and helps to clear infected cells from the body.

Mutations in the CRPIX1 gene have been associated with an increased risk of developing certain inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. However, the exact mechanisms by which CRPIX1 mutations contribute to these diseases are not fully understood.
