CNGt

CNGt refers to Compressed Natural Gas technology. It is a fuel derived from methane that is stored and distributed in a high-pressure gaseous state. CNGt is an alternative to traditional petroleum-based fuels like gasoline and diesel and is primarily used in internal combustion engines for vehicles. The natural gas used for CNGt is typically composed of at least 80% methane, with smaller amounts of ethane, propane, and other hydrocarbons. Before compression, natural gas is purified to remove impurities such as water, sulfur compounds, and carbon dioxide.

The process of compressing natural gas involves reducing its volume significantly, allowing for storage in specialized high-pressure tanks. These tanks are designed to withstand pressures typically ranging from 200 to 250 bar (2,900 to 3,600 psi). Vehicles equipped with CNGt systems have dedicated fuel tanks, fuel lines, and injectors. When the engine demands fuel, the compressed gas is regulated down to a usable pressure before being injected into the combustion chamber.

CNGt offers several environmental advantages over gasoline and diesel. It produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide, and significantly lower levels of particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons. This contributes to improved air quality, especially in urban environments. Economically, CNGt can be a cost-effective option due to lower fuel prices in many regions. However, the initial investment in CNGt-compatible vehicles or conversion kits can be higher, and the availability of refueling infrastructure may be a limiting factor in some areas.
