CNBC is an American pay television business news channel owned by NBCUniversal News Group, a division of Comcast. The channel provides real-time coverage of financial markets, business developments, and economic news for a global audience.

The channel launched in 1989 as a joint venture between NBC and Cablevision Systems. It was originally created to deliver continuous business news and market data; the name CNBC stands for Consumer News and Business Channel. Over time it expanded beyond the United States with international editions, including CNBC Europe and CNBC Asia, and later CNBC Africa.

Programming includes live market coverage, stock quotes, interviews with executives, and analysis. Notable programs are Squawk Box, Squawk on the Street, Power Lunch, Closing Bell, and Mad Money with Jim Cramer. The network also operates CNBC.com and digital services such as CNBC Pro for premium content.

CNBC is part of NBCUniversal News Group within Comcast; it operates global bureaus and regional feeds and distributes content across cable, satellite, streaming, and digital platforms.
