CMYpigmentit

CMYpigmentit refers to pigments that are based on the subtractive color model. This model uses three primary colors: Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. When these pigments are combined in different proportions, they can theoretically produce a wide range of other colors, including black. This is in contrast to the additive color model, which uses Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) and is typically used for light emissions like on computer screens.

In printing and painting, CMY pigments are fundamental. Cyan is a greenish-blue, Magenta is a purplish-red, and Yellow is, as its name suggests, yellow. When Cyan and Yellow are mixed, they create Green. Magenta and Yellow create Red. Cyan and Magenta create Blue. Theoretically, mixing all three in equal parts should result in black. However, in practice, the resulting black is often a muddy brown due to impurities in the pigments. For this reason, printing processes typically include a separate black ink, known as Key (K), forming the CMYK color model.

The effectiveness of CMY pigments depends on their purity and their ability to absorb specific wavelengths of light. High-quality pigments are essential for achieving accurate and vibrant color reproduction. Understanding the principles of subtractive color mixing is crucial for artists, designers, and anyone involved in color-based media.
