CIDRmuoto is a Finnish term that translates to "CIDR notation" in English. It refers to the method of expressing an IP address range using a shorthand notation that combines the IP address and the number of bits in the network portion of the address. This notation is widely used in computer networking to define subnets and routing policies.

The CIDR notation consists of an IP address followed by a forward slash and a number. For example, 192.168.1.0/24 represents a network where the first 24 bits of the IP address define the network portion, and the remaining 8 bits define the host portion. This means that all IP addresses from 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.255 belong to this network.

CIDR notation simplifies the representation of IP address blocks and is crucial for efficient routing and network management. It replaced the older classful IP addressing system, which was less flexible and led to significant IP address exhaustion. The CIDR system allows for a more granular allocation of IP addresses, enabling network administrators to create subnets of varying sizes to suit their specific needs.
