CD130
CD130, also known as the Interleukin-6 receptor subunit beta or IL6ST, is a transmembrane protein that plays a crucial role in the signaling pathways of several cytokines, most notably interleukin-6 (IL-6). It functions as a shared signal transducer for the IL-6 family of cytokines. CD130 itself does not bind cytokines directly. Instead, it forms a functional receptor complex with specific cytokine-binding receptor alpha subunits. Upon cytokine binding to the alpha subunit, CD130 undergoes dimerization and recruits intracellular signaling molecules, primarily the Janus kinase (JAK) family, leading to the activation of the Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription (STAT) pathway.
This signaling cascade mediated by CD130 is essential for a wide range of physiological processes. These include
